After 30 years of having an ownership stake in the St. Paul Saints baseball team, Veeck talked about the decision to sell the Saints to the Minnesota Twins. With the acquisition the Twins had their Triple AAA affiliate only 11 miles away…the closest such relationship in all of major league baseball.

The St. Paul native was the youngest umpire in major league baseball at age 26 in 1986. He shared with Dunkers the episode in 1987 when he, as home plate umpire, ejected Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Niekro for using a poorly hidden emery board to scuff baseballs.
