Game 204 | February 11, 1972 | Cal Stoll
In 1972 Stoll became the first "M" man since Bernie Bierman to coach the Gopher football team. He left Wake Forest to join the Gophers and led his first team to a fifth-place finish with a 4-4 conference record.
Game 215 | December 13, 1972 | Cal Stoll
This was the first time in history that one speaker made two appearances in the same year. Stoll had just finished his first of seven seasons as Gopher football coach. While the season ended with a disappointing 4-7 record, the Gophers finished strong with victories over Northwestern, Michigan State and Wisconsin, setting the stage for what was to be Stoll's best season in 1973.

A week after his Dunkers appearance, Stoll opened the Gopher football season by losing 56-7 at Ohio State. The team lost only one other Big Ten game all season, to Michigan, and finished third in the conference with a 6-2 record. As Gopher Athletic Director, Giel played a major role in luring Stoll from Wake Forest after the 1971 season.

A second-team All Big Ten selection, Dungy quarterbacked the Gophers to a third-place finish in the Big Ten in 1976. A great high school athlete in Michigan, Dungy also lettered in basketball in 1974.
Game 255 | August 19, 1977 | Cal Stoll
The biggest win of Stoll's Gopher coaching career came in October of 1977 when his team shut out by a score of 16-0 a Michigan team that was ranked number one in the nation. That team, featuring Kent Kitzman, Marion Barber, Gary White, Mark Carlson, Stan Sytsma, Mark Merrill and Paul Rogind, became the first Gopher team since 1962 to go to a post-season bowl game, losing to Maryland 17-7 in the Hall of Fame Bowl.
