Almost two decades after Dunkers began, Edina basketball coach Duane Baglien became the second high school coach to be a featured guest. His team had just gone undefeated and won the state championship. He won the state title again in 1967 and 1968 and won 69 straight games in what was to be the "Edinasty" of Minnesota high school basketball. Baglien was a Gopher basketball and baseball letter winner. Stars of his Edina teams included Bob Zender, Jeff Wright, Roger Schelper and Jay Kiedrowski.

Baglien, Duane O. Age 85, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully August 1, 2011 at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina. Preceded in death by parents, Anna & Orlin; brother, Dale, and wife Marcella. Survived by children, Rolf Baglien (Pam), Judy Wolden (Bruce), Scott Baglien (Gerri), Ross Baglien (Rhonda), Kevin Baglien, Barb Vogl (Brian); grandchildren, Kim, Brad, Heather, Dianne, Kirk, Carissa, Shelby, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Zane & Gavin; and special friend, Margaret Craig. Born in Crookston, Duane, as a child moved to Fargo where he excelled in athletics, was all-state in football and basketball and was captain of the 1943 state champion Fargo High basketball team. Duane then enrolled at the U of M. College was interrupted by three years in the Navy during World War II. Returning to the U in 1946, Duane played football, basketball, and baseball, and was captain of the Gopher baseball team. In 1950 Duane played summer baseball in Fergus Falls, helping lead the town team to the state title, and here he met his future wife Marcella. Duane taught social science and coached basketball in Winthrop, Slayton, and Fergus Falls prior to becoming Edina High School's basketball coach in 1958. During his years at Edina, the Hornets won three consecutive state titles in 1966, 1967 & 1968 and had a winning streak of 69 games. Duane retired from coaching in 1969 and finished his career in administration at Edina. During his retired years, he enjoyed golfing with family and friends and spent winters in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Memorials preferred to N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, MN. Visitation Monday 5-8 pm, Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Funeral Service Tues., Aug. 9, 11:00 am, Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S.
