After the sudden death of Bart Giamatti, Vincent was elected the eighth commissioner of Major League Baseball. He held that job from 1989-1992 when he was succeeded by Bud Selig. A majority of owners, including Twins owner Carl Pohlad, lacked confidence in Vincent and voted to oust him after just three years.
