The Twins finished the 2005 season in third place, 16 games behind the Chicago White Sox. Righthand starter Lohse finished with a 9-13 record for the second year in a row. Nathan, obtained from the Giants in a trade for A.J. Pierzynski, finished tied for third in the league with 43 saves and was named to The Sporting News post-season All-Star team.

With most of the team's roster in town for Twinsfest and the start of the Winter Caravan, Nathan and Kubel talked about their thoughts on the upcoming season in their new home, Target Field. Nathan had arm surgery and missed the entire season. Kubel alternated between right f1eld and designated hitter. He hit .249 with 21 home runs and 92 runs batted in.
