JOHN MAYASICH

This was the first time in club history that a meeting featured two future members. Mencel was the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player as a member of the Gopher basketball team. He played the next two years with the Minneapolis Lakers. Mayasich, a two-time Olympian, is regarded by many as the greatest Gopher hockey player ever. Coach John Mariucci said he was "the Wayne Gretzky of his time."
