NOTES:

[1] Upon joining the league in 2000, the Minnesota Wild had a ceremony retiring #1 from circulation as a tribute to the fans.
[2] Malik Sealy died in a car crash in St. Louis Park, MN, on May 20, 2000, while playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. His #2 was retired posthumously.
[3] Korey Stringer suffered from heat stroke during the Vikings 2001 preseason training camp, and died as a result of complications. The Vikings retired his jersey number 77 during the 2001 season.

For University of Minnesota sports, in most instances, the "player's name, jersey and number" was retired. In those instances, the number is still active and could be in use by a current student-athlete.
