In his first year as manager the team won the American League Central Division and hit a major-league record 307 homers.

He talked about the departure of Trevor May and Eddie Rosario and addition of shortstop Andrelton Simmons. The team, beset by injuries, went on to finish fifth in the A.L. Central with a record of 73-89.
