ROY SMALLEY

Nephew of former manager Gene Mauch, Smalley joined the Twins in a 1976 trade with Texas for Bert Blyleven and Danny Thompson. He was an All-Star shortstop for the Twins in 1979 and left the team in 1982 in a trade with the New York Yankees that brought Greg Gagne and Ron Davis to the Twins. Smalley rejoined the Twins in 1985 and played with them until 1987. He's been a Dunker since 1989 and was Head Coach in 1998.

Smalley returned to the Twins in an off-season trade with the Whit Sox, and Stenhouse, an outfielder, came in a trade with Montreal. Smalley hit .258 with 45 RBIs. Stenhouse played in half of the team's games, but his just .223 and was gone after one year. The team finished in sixth place with a record of 77-85.

Smalley, having recently retired from professional baseball, was hired by Jacobs as the head of the Special Olympics World Games, which were coming to Minnesota in 1991. Jacobs, a Minneapolis native, made his fortune buying and selling distressed properties. His FLW Outdoors is the parent company of several nationally televised bass fishing tournaments.
