SCOTT STUDWELL

Game 413 | October 22, 1991 | Scott Studwell
An outstanding college linebacker at Illinois, Studwell was a ninth-round draft selection of the Minnesota Vikings in 1977. Despite his low position in the draft, Studwell quickly adjusted to the NFL and played 14 seasons with the Vikings, being named All Pro in 1984, 1988 and 1989. He retired after the 1990 season. He holds the Viking career record for tackles and, in 1990, was named to the Illinois All Century team at linebacker along with Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke.

Game 652 | April 26, 2005 | Scott Studwell, Rob Brzezinski
With an ownership change only days away, Vikings executives Studwell and Brzezinski talked about scouting, drafting and managing against the league-mandated salary cap. The 2005 draft, in which the Vikings had two first-round picks for the first time since 1999, turned out to be one of the worst in the team's modern history. Wide receiver Troy Williamson, chosen seventh, never became a reliable starter, and defensive end Erasmus James' short career was marked by a series of injuries.

Game 876 | March 20, 2017 | Scott Studwell, Ben Leber, Joe Schmit
The topic was the changing look of defenses in the National Football League, and Dunkers would be hard pressed to find two more qualified speakers. Studwell ranks second to legendary Dick Butkus in career tackles at Illinois. Thought to be too small to play in the National Football League, he lasted until the 9th round of the 1977 draft. He spent from 1977-1990 with the Minnesota Vikings and retired as the team's all-time leading tackler with 1,981 career tackles. He is currently Director of Collegiate Scouting for the Vikings. Leber, a native of Vermillion, S.D., was drafted out of Kansas State by the San Diego Chargers. After two seasons with the Chargers he was signed by the Vikings and quickly became a starting linebacker for the next four seasons. He's now a regular on KFAN radio in the Twin Cities. Dunker member and KSTP-TV sports director Joe Schmit did the interviews.
