When Women's Soccer was added as a varsity sport at the University of Minnesota in 1993, Sue Montagne was named head coach. She held that position through 1999, winning Big Ten championships for the Gophers in 1995 and 1997. Hebert, already a top coach at Illinois, came to Minnesota as head volleyball coach in 1996. His 1999 team made NCAA post-season play for the third time in four years, making it to the Sweet Sixteen. Hebert was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Nicole Branagh and Lindsey Berg both were named first-team All Big Ten, and both played for the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
