Just a day before the start of the first year of the new 3M Tournament, Lehman recalled that he appeared at Dunkers in 1996 and won the British Open just 23 days later. Hovland, a 21-year-old Oslo, Norway, native, had just won the U.S. Amateur and was new to the pro tour. Lehman, asked for this favorite golf story, told of the time he was paired with his wife in a mixed doubles event. On the first he hit a 285-yard drive down the middle, She shanked the next shot into the right rough. He hit a shot onto the green just 15 feet from the hole n the par 5, Her putt rolled 20 feet past the pin and he made the par putt coming back. En route to the second hole he commented that they were going to need to step up their game. "I don't know why you're mad at me,"she said. "I only had two shots on that hole and you took three."
